A true gem for adventurous travellers exploring Europe by campervan or motorhome, it offers a unique opportunity to explore the winemaking traditions behind one of Catalonia’s oldest and most renowned wines.

More than just a stopover, the estate features a superb restaurant where you can savour creative and flavorful cuisine, all while surrounded by nature, panoramic views, and the charm of a storied past. Discover this enchanting destination and experience the essence of rural Catalonia at its finest.

This España Discovery stopover is an internationally renowned winery where vines are cultivated using sustainable methods to produce high-quality grape varieties. The estate benefits from excellent geographic and climate conditions, ideal for crafting exclusive wines. From the beginning, it was designed following the French châteaux bordelais model, making it the first Catalan winery of its kind. The estate was also a pioneer in planting grape varieties previously unseen in Spain, such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Sémillon.

The story of this Catalan winery has been shaped mainly by two families: the Girona family, who launched and developed the project throughout the 19th and 20th centuries; and the Cusiné family, who acquired the estate in 1982. They modernized the facilities and introduced innovations in vine growing and winemaking to meet the challenges of a new millennium. Their efforts have earned the winery numerous awards and recognition as part of the Costers del Segre PDO (Protected Designation of Origin). In fact, Castell del Remei is the fifth oldest registered wine brand in Spain, according to the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office.

Would you dare to try a “1780” reserva, aged for 18 months in French and American oak barrels, paired with a caramelized duck leg roasted with berries?

The winery offers travelers an unforgettable experience in harmony with the surrounding environment. The estate stretches across several kilometres and holds many surprises. You’re invited to explore its impressive castle, dine in its restaurants (with gluten-free options for coeliacs), stroll through the gardens and vineyards, visit the historic winery, the wine library, the sanctuary of the Virgin of Remei, or the Lucilla Atilla exhibition hall.

This stopover, featured in the España Discovery Guide, also allows for birdwatching thanks to its proximity to La Plana Lake, and offers activities such as wine tastings, guided tours, hiking routes, and of course, participation in the Festa Major of Castell del Remei.
Don’t miss this adventure – and don’t forget to take home a few bottles of fine wine as a gift for your friends and family!
