In 2001, the Gómez Araujo family took an important challenge upon themselves: To recover a 2000-year-old wine growing tradition to form one of Galicia’s most innovative cellars. Since then, and thanks to the effort of the team, the Regina Viarum cellars have developed their own wine growing culture that combines high altitude, precision and innovation, with success both in the local and international stages. In fact, they were the first cellar of the area to elaborate wine with the Araúxa (tempranillo) variety of grape, and the first to incorporate a vibration based destemmer for the processing of the local grapes, harvested at a 45 degree slope.
Regina Viarum, -a stopover included in the guide specialized in motorhome tourism España Discovery- does admirable work in the steep canyons of the Sil River, where heavy machinery and modern harvesting procedures have little effectiveness: "Heroic Viticulture", respecting the environment environment, taking advantage of the Mediterranean, Atlantic and continental microclimatic influences and following traditional methods to extract the best product from the local soil. This is how high-quality wine is delivered directly to your hand.
Remember you can park up to 24 hours in the facilities of this stopover. On top of that, using the stopover’s QR code (which appears in the up-to-date España Discovery guide) you can access the location and contact the cellar directly to announce your arrival. Always show your copy of the up-to-date España Discovery guide to your host, as it is your ID and passport for this system and always remember to -please- follow the GOLDEN RULES.
