Before we start, it should be said that a “trujal” is an olive oil mill. That said… Would you like to visit a spectacular place where you can taste some of the best extra virgin olive oil from Navarra and Spain? Close to “Villa de Fontellas”, in the Foral Community of Navarra, you can find Aceite Artajo, one of the most notable projects in the area, which opens its doors to travellers from all over Europe so they can enjoy the eco-friendly olive culture in its plenitude. Prepare your luggage, call up Artajo and visit this wonderful place aboard your motorhomes and campers! Cover photo: @buscamperpassieThe Artajo family has been working on the production of olive oil and wine since 1780, the year in which the Artajo brand was created, and has continued on to the current day, overcoming some hardships along the way. In 1960 the labour is interrupted due to three factors: The arrival of vegetal oils to the local market, the cold wave making its way through Spain lowering the production of olives, and the health sector during the 1950’s discrediting olive oil (as the thought line of the time was that it was too high in cholesterol), and denying olive oil’s multiple health benefits. Today we know with certitude that the consumption of olive oil reduces the risk of suffering heart problems, strengthens the immune system, keeps the gastric tract healthy thanks to its antibacterial effects and more.It was in the dawn of the 21st century that Artajo changed hands to its new owners, and with that, the rise of the current manager: Pedro Abad, expert and consummate motorhomer and loyal follower of France Passion (España Discovery’s French counterpart). It was Abad who inspired the owners of Artajo to develop this amazing stopover that includes a water changing service, and at the same time launched the idea of oil tourism aboard camper vehicles. As a traveller, you can join in on oil tourism activites such as tours, tastings, or picnics under the olive trees. Here you can find a list of awards that this family-owned business’ extra virgin olive oil has earned. Trujal Artajo -a Stopover included in the motorhome tourism specialist guide, España Discovery 2023-, has integrated a method for hosting travellers that is unique in Spain, “Off hours” hosting, you can only arrive at the oil mill’s parking site outside of their work hours. This advantage is only available for travellers that have registered as visitors in Artajo’s own website. We remind you that in the España Discovery’s website you’ll find a direct link.

The following morning it is possible to enjoy a free happy hour to taste the best Navarran Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO).
Spain is the biggest producer (and exporter) of Olive Oil in the world, and most of it is produced in the regions of Andalucia, Almeria, Sevilla and Navarra. As in the south of France, Italy and Greece, it is cultivated in these regions due to the richness of the soil and the benefits of the Mediterranean climate. Don’t miss out on visiting Aceite Artajo, a truly unique stopover where you can purchase the best Navarran oil without middlemen, directly from the producer!
Remember you can park for up to 24 hours in this stopover’s facilities. Also remember that using the stopover’s QR code, which appears in the up-to-date España Discovery guide, you can access the location and contact the mill directly to announce your arrival. Always remember to show your up-to-date España Discovery guide to your hosts, as it is your ID and Passport for this system. And always remember to -please- follow the GOLDEN RULES.
