Bodegas Comenge: Get to know the hosts of España Discovery

The wines of Ribera del Duero have a long history that has lasted through generations. The richness of the soil, the unique climatic conditions, the sheer number of cellar dedicated to producing wine varieties of exceptional quality, have generated an environment for the development of this market for many years, attracting thousands of tourists that desire to relax in a unique environment where they can get to know the world of wine making. It is here, in Curiel de Duero in Valladolid, Castilla y Leon, that you can find Bodegas Comenge, a stopover that grows their own grapes and elaborates bottles of wine based on certified eco-friendly methods. Do you dare to visit them?

Bodegas Comenge, a stopover included in the motorhome-based tourism guide España Discovery 2023 is one of the most remarkable projects in the region and in their vineyards, they work in harmony with the natural environment. It all begins with a harvest where they carefully pick the fruit respecting the vine’s growth, as to ensure that the perfect balance is reflected in the taste of each of their wine varieties (Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Verdejo).  And thanks to the closeness of the vineyards to the warehouses, loss of quality due to sun exposure is minimized. This and more are part of the exhaustive work of the professionals and oenologists that form part of the Comenge family.

After the reception of the grapes into the warehouses starts the fermentation phase where they use the yeast obtained from the very vineyard, exclusive to Comenge and which defines the personality of each of their wines. Afterwards, the content rests in oak barrels and becomes structure, vivant and brilliant, and obtains a dreamlike aroma. The aging in bottle is the last step. In this stage the product acquires a velvety texture, and the initial aroma starts mixing with the aroma acquired from the barrels in a slow and almost magical integration. After the desired aging is achieved, the wine is ready for your cups. Would you like to taste a bottle of Familia Comenge Reserva, Tempranillo variety?

“Drinking a bottle of our wines is drinking part of the Ribera del Duero landscape”, as described by the hosts of this stopover, who also offer their visitors several activities linked to organic oenotouristm. During the weekends you can have fun exploring the vineyards, getting to know the finca’s terrace, the barrel hall, machinery and much more. Worth mentioning that Bodegas Comenge received the “Mención Especial al Mejor Establecimiento Enológico” (Best Winegrowing Establishment Special Mention) in 2011, an award by Tripadvisor.
