Petritegi Sidrería y Restaurante: Meet the hosts of España Discovery

The Petritegi cider house owes its name to the farmhouse built at the beginning of the 16th century. Its name means Petri's house, and the fact is that 500 years ago a Donostian called Petri De Igeldo (Pedro) ordered the construction of this building, so characteristic of Gipuzkoa, integrating the family, the farm and livestock farm and the cider maker into the same architectural unit.
The farmhouse was built around the cider press, located on the first floor of the building, which occupied a large part of it. At first, the product was for family consumption, but soon after it became famous and began to be marketed to supply the Gipuzkoa fishing fleet, for private individuals and also for local taverns and cider bars.

The modern history of Petritegi began at the beginning of the 20th century, when the farmhouse was acquired by the great-great-grandfather of the current owners. The new vision and business projection of the business was the work of Jose Joaquín Otaño; Petritegi is currently run by his daughter Ainara, the fifth generation of the family.
